Update: Scariest Parenthood Moment

I spoke with Ella’s doctor the morning after her incident and he greatly calmed my nerves. Apparently, she had a “common” breath holding spell. These episodes can be triggered by anger, frustration, fear, pain or being startled. Although we don’t know what triggered Ella to not breathe, her doctor let me know that it will not harm her. If it happens again, we should blow in her face. And if she does pass out, lay her on her side. She should quickly begin breathing again on her own.

Phew.

I’ve done lots of reading about these spells and talked to many people who knew kids that had them. Some kids will hold their breath on purpose… Umm… no thank you.
